A friend was wanting a shawl to wear this summer, that would represent the pioneer spirit. The first attempt is this varigated green , sort of half square granny, which formed a triangle and then with a sort of frilly trim. It is a shawl, but perhaps to colourful for a pioneer type, and somewhat too heavy for summer.
Next I figured I have a grocery bag full of small balls of yarn scraps so thought I would do up some granny squares in mixed colours and see how they looked together with a dark red yarn that was lurking in the bottom of a bin in the closet. The traditional granny square, I think, will do fine as a shawl, this particular one though, may be again to bright and modern to pass for a pioneer lady's everyday shawl to keep her shoulders warm when going out after supper is done to sit on the porch with a cuppa tea. I like the square shape better than the triangle.I do have another idea, that I have started on, lighter and only the edge is crocheted. Hope to show it in a week or so.
Tell me if you would wear either of these shawls -- I am thinking someone might like to purchase them, or one or the other?

Good Morning, Miss Snips. Your shawls are gorgeous and yes I would wear them. However, I have a half dozen plus shawls that I have crocheted over the decades and am not in the market to buy. I am sure that you will find a buyer for them. You are right that they are too heavy for summer wear.
